 |   European Parliament Ratifies Free Trade Treaty with Colombia On December 11, the European Parliament ratified, with 486 votes in favor and only 147 against, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the European Union and Peru and Colombia. After more than three years of negotiations, the treaty will take effect during the first quarter of 2013. "This was an historical vote. The European Parliament has cast a convincing vote for a better future for Europeans and Colombians alike," stated Colombia's EU ambassador Rodrigo Rivera. "The positive results of this vote recognize Colombia's progress in recent years and demonstrate a desire for the mutual benefits both parties will enjoy as they promote employment and growth in both Colombia and the EU," added the Ambassador. This treaty is the latest in commercial agreements reached between Colombia and Switzerland, Canada, the US and the European Union.
